Pure Reason Revolution is a British progressive rock group formed in 2003, built around the creative partnership of vocalist and guitarist Jon Courtney and vocalist and bassist Chloë Alper. Their music blends progressive rock, alternative rock and electronic elements with layered harmonies and dynamic arrangements, drawing on influences as varied as Pink Floyd, Porcupine Tree and Nirvana. Over the course of their career, Pure Reason Revolution has released a string of albums on internationally recognized labels including Sony BMG, Superball Music and the legendary prog oriented InsideOut Music, with their 2024 record Coming Up To Consciousness continuing a creative trajectory that began with early works such as The Dark Third, Eupnea and Above Cirrus.
In their early years, the band built its reputation through extensive live activity and well chosen support slots, sharing stages with acts across the progressive and alternative spectrum. On tours and festival appearances in the mid 2000s, they supported bands such as Mew, Hope of the States, Steven Wilson’s Blackfield and Oceansize. They also opened for Porcupine Tree on the European Tour of a Blank Planet and have maintained a presence at major prog festivals since their reformation, including ProgPower Europe in 2024. More recently, they have been announced to perform alongside Leprous, Green Carnation and Gazpacho at the Midwinter Prog Festival in 2026.
Throughout periods of hiatus and resurgence, Pure Reason Revolution have balanced studio work with live performance and special anniversary shows, often revisiting seminal material like The Dark Third in concert while introducing newer members such as vocalist Annicke Shireen. Their work reflects a clear commitment to evolving their sound without abandoning the melodic and expansive qualities that define their catalog, and their continued activity under the InsideOut Music banner positions them as a respected and enduring presence within modern progressive rock.
